The Civil Services Examination consist of two successive stages -
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type)
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview)
The Candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination will have to apply online again.
UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2020 Eligibility -
Age Limits - A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August 2020.
Upper Age Relaxation -
SC / ST candidates - 5 years
OBC candidates - 3 years
Minimum Educational Qualifications - The candidate must hold a degree of any recognized University.
UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2020 Pattern -
The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each.
Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be of two hours duration.
The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.
It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she does not appear in both the papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination.
There will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.
There are four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam Application Form -

Before start filling up Online Application, a candidate must have his photograph and signature duly scanned in the .jpg format in such a manner that each file should not exceed 300 KB each and must not be less than 20 KB in size for the photograph and signature.
The candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs.100/- [excepting SC/ST/ Female/Persons with Benchmark Disability candidates who are exempted from payment of fee] either by depositing the money in any branch of State Bank of India by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India or by using any Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/ Debit Card.

- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
- General Science.
Paper II - 200 marks
Duration - Two hours
- Comprehension;
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability;
- Decision making and problem solving;
- General mental ability;
